Should I practice writing?

There’s only one reason why you may ever need to practice writing: learning to handwrite in a new script. Practicing writing doesn’t help to learn how to spell. Reading does. Even teaching spelling to children in school for their first language doesn’t work and the only thing that has lasting effects is the amount of books that they read. If you want to get good at writing certain kinds of texts (say technical texts), you need to get lots of input about those topics.
