How much should I read?

As much as you can! There’s no limit to how much you can benefit from in one day other than making sure you’re fresh and you can pay attention to what you are reading and not drift off. And for the total amount of reading that you are going to need to do, the SEG English school in Tokyo estimates that we need to read 1 million words to notice a considerable improvement in our reading ability, and around 3 million words to be able to read almost any book. That’s around 11 and 33 average-length novels respectively. Since at the beginning you’re probably going to be reading many children’s books, you’ll probably need to read considerably more books than that.
